As far as I know, to properly mitigate spectre variant 2, it requires
update to microcode along w/ kernel support for IBRS.  However, IBRS
feature was just committed to the mainline on Jan 4th (ref.
https://lwn.net/Articles/743019/ ), so it is most likely not supported by
in other LTS branches yet.

Spectre variant 1 is a bigger headache because it requires recompilation of
linux kernel and all libraries w/ lfence feature.
