[OpenWrt-Devel] flock vs. lock in scripts

OpenWrt ships since a long time an own
implementation of locking for scripts:

can we use 'flock' for that which is upstream/busybox
or maybe use a shell-function for that?

seems, that the only users are:
/lib/functions.sh
/lib/preinit/30_failsafe_wait
/lib/preinit/40_run_failsafe_hook
/lib/preinit/99_10_failsafe_login

with e.g.:
lock $file
luch -u $file
lock -w $file
