"-Os -pipe" will be added by default in include/target.mk, if
"-fno-caller-saves -matomic" should always be used for this CPU core,
you should add it to CPU_CFLAGS_archs38 in include/target.mk or like
"-mno-branch-likely" is added to CPU_CFLAGS for all mips builds in
include/target.mk.
If there would be support for a different SoC with this CPU core in
OpenWrt, both targets can share the user space application. When I want
to build an image for both SoCs I only have to build busybox once for
example. This only works correct of the CFLAGS will be specified in
include/target.mk for this CPU type. All SoCs with the same ARCH and
CPU_TYPE should share many of the user space binaries.

Could you switch to kernel 4.4 please, we plan to remove support for 4.3
soon and 4.4 will be a long term kernel.
A patch converting arc770 to kernel 4.4 would also be nice.

You should not unset these network drivers here. The config in
target/linux/generic/config-4.X activates it and should deactivate all
the drivers in there. If there is some config symbol missing in
target/linux/generic/config-4.X pleae send a patch adding it.

This file is also in the upstream kenrel, is there a difference to the
file at arch/arc/boot/dts/axc003_idu.dtsi ?
If you do not want to add a lot more dts files into OpeNWrt which are
not in the upstream Linux kernel already you can also take the dts files
which are shipped with the Linux kernel. The bcm53xx target takes the
dts files from the linux kernel and adds some missing stuff with patches.
If you want to add all or most of the dts files into the mainline kernel
it is probably easier to let OpenWrt take them from there so you do not
have to maintain them in OpenWrt.

Please run "make target/linux/{clean,refresh} V=99" to make the patches
cleanly apply. (I haven't applied them just saw the git part at the end
which gets removedin this process)
As these patches are the same patches used by the arc770 target would it
make sense to move them to generic? Are these needed for every SoC using
a ARC CPU core and uses Device tree in OpenWrt?
